The Two Nuns At The Wedding: update…

I never update anything, but I couldn’t resist this.

I think these Nuns are bona fide nuns. In bona fide Reeboks.

This picture is from the home page of the Community of the Sisters of the Church:

Look familiar?

The UK Provincial of the order is called Susan CSC; the Assistant provincial is called Catherine CSC.

To Be Continued……

  1. You need to link this up to the post where we discussed whether Buddhist monks can wear socks. LOL.

I still want to know why they got such PRIMO seats . . .

  2. Thanks for the update. I love the website you provided the link to. As for the shoes–more power to them. In a sea of needle heels, the Reeboks are a sign of sanity. (Note: I love needle heels.) (Other note: It still pleases me to think they might have been from MI5. Ros and Connie, perhaps.)

  3. I’m no official nun watcher, but being raised Catholic and having my fair share of encounters as a child, they certainly looked of that cloth. I had no idea (didn’t catch the wedding) that the Sisters were front and center, but props to them for getting a better seat than the men, just sayin’. Now, if you’d let us know how they got chosen… straws, lottery, divine intervention….

  4. Thanks for the link to the sisters. The little gray-haired one is pretty cute; she looks like one of my aunts. The other one… looks like a nun. πŸ˜‰
So… Do Anglican nuns have the same “rep” as the legendary, terrifying R.C. Nuns with Rulers?

    1. No, I think they’re all together a more civilised breed. The site blog goes on about composting and such.

It could, however, stlll be an elaborate cybercover….

  5. Hi Kate, loving the detective work so far and looking forward to the world exclusive interview …
By the way, looking at their home page, I noticed that it finishes with a quote from the wonderful, and much used at weddings (including ours) I Corinthians 13.
Mind you, the Romans reading on Friday wasn’t bad either. I thought that the bride’s brother did very well given how nervous he surely must have been, even if he had taken the “go slowly, leave pauses” advice just a little too much to heart.

  6. I think you have certainly nailed the correct picture to the little nun. Apparently she is Sister Judith, and she was Mother Superior at Ham Common Convent for 10 years. In September 2007 she was appointed as Westminster Abbey’s new Chaplain. Found this information on the Westminster Abbey website. I remember seeing both of them taking a prominent position when the Pope visited last year too.

    1. Rosemary, thank you. The Abbey’s chaplain would merit a very important seat indeed…the Pop’s visit would have elicited a very different TV audience from The Wedding. Must have a look back over the footage!
Always lovely to hear from you πŸ™‚

      1. Kate, I have found a picture of the two nuns on Google Image – “Pope’s visit to Westminster Abbey”. On the picture the taller/younger nun seems to be assisting Sister Judith down the aisle, perhaps that is her role!

      2. A prop nun! Thank you, Rosemary, you have helped us to find our nuns, and provided a photograph to boot πŸ™‚ The Abbey staff have been fascinating during this most high profile event: Ben the Verger has given us such a lovely impromptu surprise with his cartwheeling as well. A very refreshing look at our Church of England.
